ABOUT SEA20

As driver of the SEA20 initiative Nordic West Office launched a study, suggesting that international collaboration between maritime cities is a political necessity to make shipping more connected and sustainable. Creating an environmentally friendly maritime infrastructure will become a critical interest for city leaders and we all need to work together to bring about change.

SEA20 is a not-for-profit initiative that aims to connect Smart and Ecologically Ambitious maritime cities to facilitate the transition to a smarter and more sustainable global maritime ecosystem. This will be done through sharing best practices, workshops, analyses and insights. “Principles for a smarter and more sustainable global maritime ecosystem” will be published in the summer of 2020.

Current network members include Hamburg, Helsinki, Luleå, Vaasa, Rotterdam, Trieste, Genoa and the State of Washington. Other cities are in the process of joining.

The initiative is run by Nordic West Office, a global affairs consultancy and think tank based in Helsinki. SEA20 is made possible by Wärtsilä, a global leader in smart technologies and complete lifecycle solutions for the maritime and energy market.
